Can anyone point me toward a web source for some of OMC's oddball lubricants and sealers such as Adhesive M, Needle Bearing Grease, Gasket sealer. These were called out in the Clymer manual for an '81 115 Johnson water pump change. The manual seams very specific. Are there substitutions out there?

What are you going to use needle bearing assembly grease for in a water pump? All you need is the gasket sealer and good waterfroof grease for the shaft where the impeller goes, the bolts and on the splines.

Good luck!

Dhadley,
The Clymer's manual said to use needle bearing grease on the shaft. I don't know why except that needle bearing grese won't dissolve when gas hits it? Oh well, I know from working on my truck under the supervision of a good mechanic friend that there's the "right" way a manual describes and then there's the way professionals who work on these things day in and day out do it.I had suspected that it didn't take 6 different OMC brand lubricants and sealers to change a water pump. Just good grease and gasket sealer? Good. Any recommended brands of either and what do you reccommend for gearcase lube (synthetic, hi-vis, etc...).
Thanks for your help.

Needle bearing assembly grease DOES dissolve in gas. Thats why you use it on internal bearings -- so they will roll right away. Anyway, on the shaft and threads you need a good waterproof grease so as to keep salt and corrision from "welding" parts together. Besides, the next time you do the job you know the bolts will come out, the shaft wont be stuck in the splines and the impeller will slide off.

Use any good sealer like OMC Gasket Sealer or Permatex. Same for the grease -- OMC or any good name brand. I kinda prefer a synthitic grease.

Good luck!

Thanks Dhadley for straightening me out on the needle bearing grease. That's one of those things I would blurt out in a crowd and make an a** out of myself (losing all credibilty). I am ordering the kit today, thanks for the advise.
