lube leaking from the back of the prop

I just changed my water pump on a 7.5 mercury circa 1980.
Motor ran great. The second time I took it out I noticed grease stream out the back of the prop. I have changed the impeller several times and have never noticed this in the past. Any ideas. thanks

Two possibilities are exhaust oil condensate or lower unit grease. If whitish, or white streaks in it, it's probably just exhaust crud from too much trolling or slight use in cold weather. Other wise it could be lower unit oil leaking out from around the propshaft seal. If it's that it should be dark blue with no white.

Might check your lower unit oil and maybe change it if you haven't in a year. Should be dark blue with no milky look to it....(water).

A TWO STROKE WOULD NOT HAVE OIL CORRECT. YOU ONLY WOULD NEED TO CHANGE THE OIL ON A FOUR STROKE. IT LOOKS LIKE IT THE ONLY THING IT COULD BE WOULD BE GREASE. SHOULD THIS BE A CONCERN

The oil would come from your fuel/oil mix on a 2 stroke.

smell of it,,if it smells really bad,,its lowerunit oil,,and it burnt and needs to be changed,,well the stuff stinks when its new,,and really bad when its burnt.
