I have a 1955 MK55E 40 horse merc. I read on another web sight, that todays 90 weight gear lube is not suitable for the older motors. Are there any suitable substitutes that I can get so I dont have to pay an arm and a leg to the factory?

Hi Wildthing
I used to use a lubraplate product in my mk55. Its an extreme presure marine gear lube. Might cost just an arm but not both.

Thanks alcan, do I have to go to a marine shop to get it, or is it widely available, like K mart or Walmart?

Hi wildthing
You can bet K-mart won't have it, I don't know about wally world. I guessing it going to be a marine store or dealer. How much can gear lube cost in the amount you need? Around here five or six bucks and your swimming in the stuff.
