Lowrance HDS 7 with Structure Scan

I just purchased the HDS 7 w/ Stucture Scan and had it installed on my bay boat. The installer only put the stucture scan transducer on the boat and did not install the ducer that came with the unit. Is this proper or do I need both transducers installed?

I have a 2002 Yamaha 225 EFI engine on the boat. Is there a way to "hot wire" the gauges to work on the Info display?

Any help appreciated.

You need both unless you only want the structure scan.
I been looking at the HDS 7 and 8 but can not get over the sticker shock.
I have seen the structure scan play backs and even took a 2 hour class by a Skipper and Lowrance guy that covered every thing but for me I want both the 50/200khz and the 200 khz transducer but do not want the structure scanner. Then I fish more deep water and Salt Water than shallow water.

I have the hds-10 with structure scan. You need to install the other transducer to get the maxium benifet of structure scan

I also have the HDS-7 and just installed the LSS-1 today. I also have a question about it's operation. I did the installation in the yard and not in the water. Will my screen be blank and no noise on the screen? I'm going to launch tomorrow and am wondering if this is normal for "dry" land? Thanks

Oh I almost forgot that "yes" you need to use both transducers.

Thanks for the response everyone. I haven't even put mine in the water yet, but I noticed only one ducer (structure scan) installed. I thought I needed both but was not sure.

Does anyone know about connecting my 2002 Yamaha 225 EFI to use the Info screen? I was told by someone that it could be "hot wired".

Thanks

I dont think I woud hot wire it....the FF has a pricey cost and would stink if u blew it..I believe Lowrance sells a adapter to network the motor to the unit...call them....and yes u need both transducers

[What]about connecting my 2002 Yamaha 225 EFI to use the Info screen [on a LOWRANCE HDS-7]? I was told by someone that it could be "hot wired".

Thanks

I recommend do not take any further advice on marine electronics from that person.

Well, I'm back. I got both transducers installed and it appeared to be working fine the first time I took it out.
Now, the structure scan gives me a "No Source" message and I can't figure it out. I have checked the power cable and it is hot. Both yellow and red. There are no LED lights on the LSS-1 box and apparently there is supposed to be. Could the box be bad????

Re: Lowrance HDS 7 with Structure Scan

There's probably nothing wrong with the LSS-1. The yellow wire get's connected to the yellow wire on the HDS power cable. The red wire is always hot and black is negative. When the HDS is turned on, the yellow on the HDS goes hot and turns on (wakes up) the LSS-1. Don't worry, when the LSS-1 is asleep but still connected to a permanent hot, there is no power consumption.

There are three ethernet ports (yellow) on the LSS-1. There is one sonar port and one power port. The Ethernet port is connected to the HDS and the Sonar to the Structure Scan transducer. The ethernet ports flash when communicating with the HDS. The sonar light will go solid when it finds a bottom reference. The power light is barely visible but it is probably on.

Regarding transducers. You do want to run the 50/200 transducer also. Use it for identifing things like thermoclines, bottom composition, etc. The downlooking feature of the structure scan can validate fish arches.

On the engine connection, you can buy an interface cable for about $80 and similarly for most brands (Merc is the odd one out, I had to buy a gauge with data interface and special cable to get engine data to the hds $700- 1000 depending on options)
