I have an elite 5 and I am getting a pinging noise from my transducer. Some people are telling me it is normal and some say its not, and Lowrance tech support is unable to tell me any useful info. What do you think?
Thanks

Are you hearing this ping with the boat in the water or on a trailer? My transducers give off a clicking sound when on the trailer but never heard of a ping sound from them. Best of luck. Rick.

I hear it when I am fishing,(in the water)it is the second transducer that I have had on it. When I first bought it never did it, then one day it started clicking and now the second one is doing it out of the box.

The clicking sound is normal as long as it isn't really loud. Sonar is sound waves so if it stops clicking then you have a problem. What you can do is use a slower ping rate and set your sensitivity to around 50%. That should make it less noticiable but still effective. Any decent Lowrance tech will tell you that the factory settings on your Elite are usually the best.

There is a second possibiltiy and that is if your transducer is mounted too close to your out drive or engine. Minimum is 1 foot but I like 18" if I can get it.

I understand that it should be making noise, but the original transducer did not make this much noise until this spring. Now I am on my second transducer and it is making the same noise out of the box?

A fish finders "pings" at 200 kHz. Unless your related to Superman, you can't hear the ping of a transducer.

The "click" you are hearing is either the static discharge in the piezoceramic crystal, a problem in the circuitry in the head unit or a problem with the inner workings of the transducer. From past experience with Lowrance transducers, ticking is never a good thing
