Looking to purchase an add on chip for my gps 332C. Has anyone compared the NauticPath software to the Navionics Gold card? Is it worth double the price? This is for the St. Lawerence river..

Thanks.. for any pointers..

Re: Lowrance 332c which map chip

I bought the navonics premium lake chip for my lowrance H2O and I can say it is pretty amazing. We fished last week with it and the depth on the fish finder was pretty close to what I was reading on the H20. The only problems with it is that you have to activate it or run it in what ever area you are in. For me NE Minnesota area will not make the lakes work in NW Minnesota so I have to go into menu and select them. The other thing I dont like is it disables all the map information when reading off the lake chip. These are pretty minor to me though because when I am on the lake I dont care about the roads. The Navonics chip was 129 dollars and I really enjoy it.

Re: Lowrance 332c which map chip

Just be aware that there is possibly a software problem with Lowrance and Navionic Gold charts. Because the Gold charts have so much detail the procedure to save a waypoint quickly by pressing WPT/WPT does not work. It will merely give you details of the point in question ,eg Submarine cable, Depth contour. I know it sounds picky but the ability to quickly mark a place when fishing is pretty fundamental I feel. It will work if you zoom the chart scale in or out whilst pressing WPT/WPT because it can't read the chart data while zooming but that is not how it's meant to be. I have written to Lowrance several times over the past 2 years about this matter and as yet there is no fix. It really depends what you want to use the unit for as the display and performance are very good. It is most unlike Lowrance to have problems like this and not fix them but on the strength of my present experience I wouldn't buy another.
