I have a 69', 16' aluminum starcraft and would like to put a short shaft 9.5 evinrude 1960s motor on a transom that is 20 1/2" top to bottom of V. My motor is 18" to foil and 17" to water inlet. I have been looking at min jack plates and was wondering if i can reverse this plate to lower it into water. I repalced my transom board and it is 8" wide sits on a shelf and below that is exterior of bow down to v.

Might want to put a post up in the Johnson outboard motor forum and see if you can make it a long shaft with ebay parts.Moving the motor back when it sounds like your tiller steering it isn't fun and now your 5" lower and have to deal with the top of the transom as well.

+1. Tiller steering on a set back engine would be really awkward.
