Is it possible to lower an Alpha One Gen 2 outdrive without the battery power? I was trying to do the gear lube change and needed to move the outdrive into the lowest position, but did not have the working battery in the storage. Was there any way to lower the outdrive without going home and bringing a working battery and then powering up the system? Thx.

Loosten the lines at your rams and bleed fluid. You will have to then add fluid when you get a battery

You can always support the lower unit and remove the ram nuts above the prop. Lower the drive to the working position and change the lube. Reinstall the rams when you're done and no extra oily mess.

Its best to service a drive on a stand to make life easy.
You do remove it to service it, check the alignment, grease the U joints, inspect the bellows for water or oil, clean and lubricate the shift mechanism correct?

Ill build a stand to work on the drive. Saw plenty of designs, so should not be too difficult to make. Thx. As for lowering the drive I needed it to change the gear lube, so disconnecting the rams would be the easiest way to go. Btw, I looked at the seloc repair manual, it says "The unit should never require more than 2 oz. of lubricant. If more is required, you've got an oil leak... etc." Is it 2 fl.oz or 2 qts?

The drive oil is a sealed system and should never leak oil .Once properly filled it should never need oil added ,if it does there is a leak that needs to be fixed

I think the manual meant you should never have to ADD more than 2 oz to what is already in there. The unit will take about 1 1/2 quarts to fill.
