Have '75 50 hp. (50esl75) will lower unit from a '73(50esl73R) fit my motor?<br />Thanks

Yes, I believe it will if the driveshaft/crank splines are the same count. But it shifts opposite so you will need the linkage from the donor lower units powerhead.

The '73 was a reverse throw shift. Won't work on the '75 unless you change the way the shift throws.<br /><br />Meaning....on the '75, the shift rod would need to move up to shift to forward. On the '73, the shift rod moves down for forward......think I got that right..... :D

Thats correct. All you need is the linkage thats on the block.

So... if i were to use the '73 lower unit only for the "case" (my skeg is broken) it would fit ok?

It would be a lot easier just to change the linkage on the block over as Mr. D suggested medic. Pretty painless job I believe. Take a look.

thanks for all the help. this forum is fantastic.<br />The lower unit in question is a possible ebay purchase. I don't think the linkage parts are included. Is it something that could be purchased? anyone?
