I have a 50's Evinrude. Is it okay to leave the lower unit in the water all season, VS. tilting the motor up?

When I tilt the motor up there is so much traffic the motor will not stay up.

Re: Lower Unit

Does it not have a tilt lock on that motor? The only thing that will happen, is the lower unit will catch growth on it from sitting in the water. Even fresh water...

Re: Lower Unit

The lock is for the angle of the motor when in the water.

The motor is a 56' Evinrude 15HP.

Don't leave it in if you have zebra mussels in your lake.

Re: Lower Unit

All you have to do if the tilt lock won't work tilt the motor all the way up and stick a 2"x2" inbetween the motor and mount that will hold it up till the cows come home. I used to do that on a 50 I had when pulling on trailer because the lock would turn loose with the bouncing. Hope this helps.

Re: Lower Unit

I just went down and put 2X4 between the lower unit and the mounting bracket. I checked that the tilt lock is for fixing the motor in the fully lowered position.
