I recently got a 1981 90 hp evinrude, runs good but has been out use for some time,im going to replace the water pump impeller, but i've been geting a little water in my oil,I replaced the seals in the fill/drain plugs but still get water.I want to replace all the lower unit seals while i got it off changing the impeller,i've never done a seal job before.
So my ? realy is ,is replacing the seals fairly easy or is this something i should have done.

Re: Lower unit

Drain the lower unit, then replace the drain screw only.

Apply 7 to 12 pounds of pressurized air to the open oil level hole. The escaping air will reveal the leakage area by sight and/or sound.

The location of the leak should enlighten you whether you should attempt repairs yourself or not.
