glass, 1st thing, GET A MANUAL...this is imperative. The wire you see is for the electric shift. I have a '71 50hp with the same thing. The only way to remove the L/U is to disconnect the wires in the engine housing (starbord side) and pull them through the exaust housing. I recommend attaching a loose wire/string to the ends so it can easily be pulled back into position. The milky LU fluid, BAD NEWS, could be a water leak, drain and refill with LU fluid. That electric shift LU requires a special LU fluid: Type C for electric shifts. It's kinda hard to come by, but your local OMC dealer should have it/can get it. No water coming out of holes=bad water pump, replace it. BTW water doesn't come out of the holes at idle or with the muffs on, only under power in gear.

Hope this helps, but don't take just my word for it...get a manual. They sell them here on this site. It's where I got mine! :D

A.D.

Hi Glasspar,
Does your motor shift gears by way of buttons (F N R)on the control head?Your gearcase may shift electro-mechanicly(instead of the more common mechanical only). That would explain those wire's.
The milky looking gear oil means WATER has found its way into the gearcase somewhere. That is NOT GOOD :( .Do not run this motor until this is remedied. If you do,you may cause engine damage.
As far as the water not coming out of the holes,I would replace the water pump and thermostat in motor.Good luck.(Would not try to pull out those wires until you get more info here) ;)
