glass, 1st thing, GET A MANUAL...this is imperative. The wire you see is for the electric shift. I have a '71 50hp with the same thing. The only way to remove the L/U is to disconnect the wires in the engine housing (starbord side) and pull them through the exaust housing. I recommend attaching a loose wire/string to the ends so it can easily be pulled back into position. The milky LU fluid, BAD NEWS, could be a water leak, drain and refill with LU fluid. That electric shift LU requires a special LU fluid: Type C for electric shifts. It's kinda hard to come by, but your local OMC dealer should have it/can get it. No water coming out of holes=bad water pump, replace it. BTW water doesn't come out of the holes at idle or with the muffs on, only under power in gear.<br /><br />Hope this helps, but don't take just my word for it...get a manual. They sell them here on this site. It's where I got mine!
