I have a 1980 Evrinrude 60 hp after getting it to run good. From all of help from this
iboats forum Thank you so much I now have a good running engine especially the
encouragement I got.
Now when i drain the lower unit lubrication oil it comes out yellow. I guess a little water is getting in this is
after about 4 hours of use.
How many places can it leak could it be a big job to fix it. Tell me the places that it could leak in at.

Aireated oil can have a yellowish tinge to it. Let it set a few days in the sun before draining and if there's water it should be settled out by then and come out first before the oil.

Re: Lower Unit water leak

I went out and brought the oil inside to look at it again and it has a yellow color to it this time.
the first time i drained it had a milky color (white)in the part of it. The rest was like it was suppose to be. But I think it was because the screws were not tight. The first time I drained it I never used it yet. I bought this boat and engine used. It takes 20 oz of lubrication and got that amount back no more or less at least that is the way it looks to me 3 time I drained it. Is there something that you can apply to the plastic washers on the drain and fill screws that will help keep water out.
It might be best for to keep like I doing and keep a watch on it. I will put what I drained out in the sun and see if any water settles in it.
And also just keep a good eye on it. Keep checked. maybe it just need to be drained some more. Because the Screws were not tight when i first got it so that tells me maybe water got in then and now it is maybe the after mat of that new lubrication getting some of that old that was still left in there and mixing. So it might need future watching Or checking.
