lower unit swap question

have a 1976 115 with bad lower unit, gears are chewed up.<br /><br />have 1978 70hp with perfect lower unit.<br /><br />can i use the 70hp unit on the 115hp motor, if anything, temporarily untill i fix the 115's unit. the 70hp is a complete and perfect runner, so i dont wanna start stealing parts unless its temporarily. <br /><br />i know you can swap props, cause i already did.

Nope. They changed bolt patterns in 1978 and the driveshaft splines are different anyhow.
