Ok so I finally was able to get the lower unit off my 92 Johnson 25 with a lot of heat, banging and finally took a sawzall to the stud leaving about 3/8" above the lower unit (enough to put vise grips on or weld something on) Now that I have soaked that in penetrating oil for the last 2 days w/o trying to turn it. I will attempt to back out this stud. Before I do something stupid, which way does it turn out looking down at it.

Can I just replace it with a stainless steel bolt or does it have to be the stud/nut combination. I can't beleive the previous owner never had it apart. I always pull the bolts and re-lube with Never Seize. Makes working on them less frustrating.

Thanks

Re: Lower Unit Stud

Turns counter clockwise. Sometimes it helps to turn it back and forth to free it up. Just a thought.
