Re: Lower Unit Stability
Hi John <br />You should have six rubber isolaters (motor mounts). Two large mounts, one top center located under the carb the other located bottom center under the swivel bracket (near the lower unit). There are four smaller mounts two at the top on the sides and two at the bottom on the sides. It sounds like one or more of these mounts are broken. It is sometimes hard to tell exactly which ones are at fault. Sometime they can look fine too. Use a padded lever of some type and carefully pry the motor around until you figure out whats up. I reasurched my OEM manuals and they give fair coverage of the subject for me, I also checked my after market manuals they don't fair as well if at all in this area. The bad news is to make repairs in this area you need to pretty much dissemble your outboard down to major componates. Remove powerhead and lower unit. This leaves the mid-section consisting of the swivel bracket and exhaust housing. Once you get that far into things I guess the rest (shock mounts) is a cake walk. My suggestion in this case is to find an OEM manual. I bet a good dealer or repair center would copy this info for you if you bought the parts from them.
