lower unit seals

I have a 1998 40 hp rude that I am trying to replace the lower unit seals. I am having trouble removing the bearing housing. I made a puller using 1/4-20 threaded rod and have put enough pressure to snap one of the rods still have not been able to remove and help or suggestions will be appreciated

I just had my LU seals replaced and ran into the same prob as you. The carrier is such a tight fit that it requires a torch to heat the LU to remove it. I had a friend who is a service manager do mine at his house. It was well worth paying him to do it.

well I got the bearing case removed it required alot of heat if you atemmpt this job a torch is a must.
