lower unit seals

can anyone give me an idea of what it should cost to have the seals on a lower unit replaced? it is on a 1989 johnson 150 gt...

with minimal corrosion about 3 to 4 hours labor seal kits about 60 and the pump kit is about 60.

how hard would it be to do this myself? i do like to work on mechanical stuff, just never done any work on an outboard.. i would also like to try and re carb sometime...

I would say the hardest part is to remove the bearing carrier. If there isn't any corrosion this is faily simple. Apart from this it is just a matter of pulling out the old seals and pressing in the new ones. I guess you could change the propshaft seals without remving the bearing carrier but it would be more difficult and, as in my case, the 'O' ring seals on the carrier were leaking it wouldn' help.
