Lower unit replacement compatatibilty

Ive got a Johnson 115EL77S <br />my skeg is partly broken and reverse is almost gone, so I was wondering if a 77 140 hp that I can cheap would work.

Those wont interchange. The 77 140 is the "new" style and the 77 115 is the old style. Measure the overall length up where it bolts on. Any V4 1973-76 will work and any 1977 20" V4 as long as it's not the 77 140.
