to make a long story short I bought a lower unit from ebay and it was supposed to be a 1980 and a short shaft. Well it wasnt, the shift linkage was connected differently and I thought I wasted my money I tried to dismantle the new unit and I couldn't the bearing housing that surrounds the prop shaft had been glued or rusted in. I came to one conclusion I was screwed I then asked for help to remove the housing and skyhigh suggested I heat it up it didn't work but what it did do was crack the housing probably do to too much heat but now I was totaly commited I used a die grinder cut it open and transfered the parts to my old unit it worked. anyone who thinks it's an impossible job for the average person to rebuild a lower unit on their own I am here to say you can thank you to this forum and to the help I have received God Bless.
