Lower unit repair cost

Hey all,

I just had my lower unit serviced by a marine mechanic who came by boat to my dock/lift. He took the LU with him last week and returned today and reinstalled it. He said he replaced all the seals and rebuilt the water pump with the kit I bought online. He pressure tested it and refilled the oil too. He charged me $117 which seemed inexpensive to me, especially coming by boat. But then I've never had the LU serviced before.

So is that a fair price for the service? Is it super cheap or way expensive? I'm just curious.

TIA!

Yes, that is a vary fair price. The parts and pump will cost at least half that, depending on what motor you're working on. The bigger motors, you can expect to pay that, in just parts.

I think that is super cheap. If it is quality work, he would have earned my continued business. Normally the two "house calls" would cost more than that.
