I'm in the process of changing the water pump with the kit, so far I have remove the lower unit by removing the intake screen and unscrew the upper nut to drop the lower unit , there are two nut in the intake screen and I think the upper nut is fixed and wont come out and I want to unbolt the shift rod bolt at the powerhead which I cant seem to find. I need to drop the shift rod somehow inorder to replace the waterpump housing and metal plate. All I can do now is just replace the impeller only. Anyone know how to unbolt the rod at the powerhead?

Model is: E20CRLCOS.

Thanks.

Re: Lower unit removal problems

The shift rod unbolts within that water intake screen area.

Slide the upper bolt up... now notice that funnel shaped black plastic object on the bottom of that top shift rod. It has a slit in it so that you can spread and remove it from the rod. Now the top bolt will drop off of the top rod and the lower unit will fall away.

Take notice of which way that funnel shaped retainer is facing so that you put it back on properly.
