Re: Lower Unit Question

THe first thing to do is to pull the lower drain plug on your outdrive. Drain into a pan so you can see the oil. alook for small chunks, light filings ok.<br />Another thought, maybe the clutchdog isn't engaging completely in reverse. Check the above first, if ok, make sure it is shifting completely into reverse. Remove shifter cble from side of motor and shift into reverse by hand. Run it, if ok, adjust shift cable. If it still does it, it's pretty much an outdrive problem, maybe a stripped clutchdog.

Re: Lower Unit Question

thanks. i change grease in the lower unit before thanksgiving and ran it the friday after.a few small filings only ran great. in reverse idle works fine, just when you accelerate is the problem. i will check the shifting cables. is the clutchdog an expensive fix.

Re: Lower Unit Question

The filings should have been visable, but you shouldn't be able to feel them. I'm thinking the clutch dog is slipping when you give it a little gas. Check linkeage to make sure reverse is engaging completely first. A worn clutch dog will do the same thing, is a major job to replace. :(
