Not ok to do it by feel, not ok to do it by measuring 9 ounces. It's only ok to do it like this: remove the upper gearcase screw -it looks just like the lower one. Insert your tube or bottle of gear oil in the hole for the lower screw and squeeze the bottle until the gear oil runs out of the top screw hole. Keep squeezing and let some run out of the top hole till to don't have big air bubbles coming out with the gear oil. You will waste a little gear oil but that's ok. So you need a bottle that holds more than 9 ounces. Then without removing the bottle from the lower screw hole, put the screw back in the upper hole and tighten it (you might need help if you're never done this by yourself before). Then put the screw back in the lower screw hole.

Just make sure you dont remove the screw for the shift pivot. Do yourself a favor and buy the service manual for the motor. While you are there they sell a pump assy just for installing oil in the bottom end. I think its much easier and less messy with the pump.
