Lower unit problem

While removing the lower unit of my Evinrude 15hp (1983) the drive shaft stayed in the engine (not the lower unit). I have tried to remove but it seems to be pretty solidly stuck. Any secrets on how to remove this and rebuild the lower unit?<br /><br />Thanks<br />Ken

Stand this motor on it's head then take a little engine tuner , power tune whatever the same stuff we use to decarbon these things,and dribble it down the driveshaft.Don't get carried away,then let it sit a day or so .Could help.

By the way that driveshaft is only held in place by the powerhead and waterpump.With just a loose gearcase that driveshaft moves in and out of the gearcase very freely .NO PINION NUT.
