After putting in new oil, i tightened the "vent" screw in too tight and i think i ended up stripping the threads in the L/U  . Anyways, how much you think this would cost me to replace lower unit? <br /> PS. motor is a Suzuki 1980 8hp 0801 001920

Re: lower unit problem =(

Why replace the lower unit. Get the hole welded and have a new plug installed. I have a freind that let the lower unit freeze and crack a 6 inch crack right through the lower plug. He took it apart, had it welded and drilled a new plug hole on the other side. Worked like a dream. Sure beat the prices of about $900-1100 for a rebuilt Force lower unit.

Don't see why you couldn't just drill it out and tap in a new one. A little larger of course.

I would go next to the weld or as ajp said, possibly on the other side. I still think you could drill out the same hole and have it tapped for a slightly larger screw. Of course you would need to find a screw that would accommodate a seal.
