i have a 67 johnson 60hp v4 with a mechanicla shift lower unit. we hit bottom it was a sandy and rocky mix. didnt seem that bad we took of fine. the prop seemed ok and now when every were going it will bang at any random time or speed. but we will be at 3-5 hours and it will only happen once or twice. The lower unit also has a small leak. The oil gets like a thick white which i herd isnt that bad if it is thick. i just wanted to kno what you guys think.

If the gear lube is white, it has water mixed in. You need to find and fix the leak. That "bang" is usually the gear slipping. Since it happens so infrequently, you may be able to adjust the shift linkage to fix it.

Yep what Chris said. More than likely the impact had less to do with it than the fact that your lube has water in it and the motor is rather old and probably has a lot of hours on it. The thump you are experiencing i the clutch dog and the gear slipping where they come together and is not uncommon on older motors. Eventually the gear will need to be replaced. You can sometimes delay this through adjusting the shift cables but it is only a temporary solution as the gear will continue to wear.
