Lower unit parts frozen together ?

I have a 1970 evinrude 1.5 horse motor and I was going to change out the seals but the front part of the lower unit under the prop will not come apart. <br />How can I get it off without damaging it. Can I use heat? Thanks for your help.<br /><br />Joe

I don't know your motor but it is usual to use heat on lots of the to get them open. Are the seals needing changing or is this precautionary? if you heat it you may well destroy all the seals in the unit. If you dont have a leak I'd just keep checking the oil twice a season.<br />sorry I cant hep more

don't know your motor, but I would make sure there isn't a bolt that has been overlooked -- maybe one coming up from below. A parts manual is very useful, if you don't have one.
