I just changed the lower unit oil. Other than the oil being really dark there is a dirt colored substance. When I pulled the top screw there was a minor amount of metal shavings. The lower screw had no metal shavings on it. Looking for opinions on the dirt colored substance. Problem? No problem?
Thanks... Dave

Normally it is the bottom screw with the magnet that has the fine shavings.-------Pictures of the shavings ?----Fine shavings are normal chunks are not.-----Have the gearcase pressure tested.----Fill it with a top quality factory recommended oil too.

Both of the screws were magnetic. I did refill it with OEM oil. Too late for photos of the shavings. I already cleaned off the screw. The minimal shavings I found on the top screw were very fine. I did not find any shavings in the container that I drained the old into.

That's one reason you are changing the oil--to get rid of the wear particles. Normal stuff is like soggy dust.
