Hello all, I have a 85hp Johnson and I was wondering what weight of oil I should use in the lower unit, and is there a certain kind that should be used?

Thanks Ed

Re: Lower Unit Oil

Walmart sells a kit with the oil and a pump to add it. The oil is Pennzoil Marine grade 80-90 weight. The pump makes filling the lower unit a breeze. The kit is around $15 and it is a deal at twice the price.

logger, you didn't say what year your 85 is. If it has electric shift you must use "Premium Blend Gearcase Lubricant". It replaces the old "Type C", formerly required. You get it at a Johnson or Evinrude dealer.
