Lower unit oil or something else?

1968 Mercury 60 (6 hp). Hadn’t been started since last August
and after starting I noticed the tell-tale was plugged so spent some time with getting that cleared. Started it in a tote filled with water and ran it for about 5 minutes after I got the tell tale working (had run for a minute or two a couple times while working on the tell tale). During the five minute run, I noticed what I thought was milky LU lube in the water in the tote. I assumed I had a LU leak and water had gotten in and then the milky lube had leaked out. Opened the lower unit drain valve and the LU lube looked as new as it was when it was put in the end of last summer— no milky lube and no notice of water coming out of the drain. Could the milky/oily substance I saw in the tote water have been un-burned two stroke oil? Maybe something else I haven’t thought of?

Almost always happens when running a 2 stroke in a barrel - It's 2 stroke oil or fogging oil if you fogged last fall.

Thank you for the response GA Boater. Just to confirm with some information I should have included in the original question. There was probably one to two ounces, it was thick enough that I could get globs of it out of the water with a paper towel and color was yellowish off-white— about the same as snot. Consistency was about the same as grandma’s pork roast gravy. I have seen a sheen of oil in the barrel when running two strokes on a couple prior occasions, but this was the first time I have seen anything this thick. Pretty sure motor was fogged last fall.

If you started and stopped the motor a few times, the spark is off while the motor winds down. Granted it's only a few revolutions, but every time more raw fuel/oil mix is dumped into the exhaust to float on the water. It builds up quick.

Oh, what color is your 2 stroke oil? And fogging oil color if you remember?

I use the Quicksilver 2 strike oil which I would call blue. I had a guy work on the carb and he fogged it so not sure what color fogging oil was.
