My 2002 outboard leaks about a tablespoon of oil overnight from the lower unit around the propshaft. I bought the 4 month old motor used.

There is minor damage to the prop causing very slight vibration. Could that be causing the leak ? I plan to replace the prop , but what else may need work ?

Does it leak after using or all the time? What you think is a leak could be oil dripping out the exhaust after use, which is normal. Regardless, dump the vibrating prop.

c/6

Hooty

Only leaks after use. And I dont think it is from the exhaust. I'll need to check a bit more carefully.

Thanks

Is that a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? Is it oil from the lower unit or fuel mix? Sure, you said from the prop shaft and the propeller is damaged so you probably need to replace the seal. In that case make sure the prop shaft isn't bent too.

The propeller can be repaired at a good prop shop. No need to replace it if the pitch is right for your boat.

Edit: Okay I'm typing to slow. ;)

Thick oil from the lower unit I think.
It's a 2stroke.
How difficult is it to change out the seals ?
Thanks
