lower unit oil for 85 HP 69 evinrude engine

A buddy of mine told me the older evinrudes use a lighter weight oil. I just bought this boat (engine is 1969 evinrude outboard, 85HP) last season so this is the first time I have had to change the oil. I found the oil in the boat that the previous owner was using. it was called 'High viscocity 80w 90 lower end unit oil. I am suspecting that is weight is too heavy. does anyone know what oil I should use. Please be specific as I am not too savvy on engines. thanks!

Howdy, Lau.<br /><br />If your engine is a hydro-electric shift it does require special oil, available at JohnnyRude Dealers.<br /><br />Otherwise Use what the previous owner used.<br /><br />Good luck.
