I have a 1984 Marlin ski boat with a OMC V-6 outdrive, can some one tell me how to stop the gear oil from the outdrive from leaking out the drain plug. It doesn't leak alot but I can see a line of grease and a small puddle below the outdrive on the floor.

Replace the seal on the drain plug to start. It i sjust like changing the oil in your car everytime you take the plug out replace the gasket. Hope this helps!

You will have to get a little messy. The fill plug has a gasket that must be replaced every time you take the plug out.Take off the plug and see if the gasket comes out with it.If it does you are in good shape, just replace it.If it does not come off,you must take a small flat screwdriver and scrape the mating surface on the fill to remove the old gasket. You may as well replace the gear oil while you are at it since it will be dripping out all over your hands.Get all of the gasket off the outdrive before you put a new gasket on the plug and tighten.
