Not sure exact year, 40hp 4cyl Mercury, oil injected. I am trying to find out how much oil to put in lower unit. Can anyone give me a ball park? do i fill it up to the vent or is that too much? <br /> Thanks in advance !!

They hold about 11 oz. Fill from the drain hole until it comes out the vent hole. Plug the vent hole, then the drain. Have rags handy. It's messy.

i was just going to ask that question! i just picked up some quicksilver lower unit oil that is about 10 oz so i figured the whole thing goes in till it over flows. I hope its pretty easy since iver never done it before.

Piece of cake! Make sure you buy the pump attachment that screws onto the bottle and the lower unit. From there, pump till you get a steady, bubble free flow from the vent hole. Put the vent screw in tight then the drain screw and your done! Then clean up the oil mess off the floor...... Oh yeah, change the fibre washers on the vent and drain plugs also.
