Lower unit oil and full mix.

Purchased a bass tracker with a 1993 40hp Johnson/Tracker motor. I know I need to change lower unit oil now. What brand and how often do I need to change in the future. Also is 50:1 the correct fuel/oil mix and does it matter what brand.

Your lower unit is factory recommended to take OMC Hi-Vis gear lube.It also recommends that you use Johnson/Evinrude TCW3 two cycle oil in your engine or equivelant.As far as brands are concerned I've used Quicksilver TCW3 in my engine and Penzoil Hi-Vis marine gear lube in the lower unit.
