Could any one out there give me any advice on rebuilding the lower unit on a 1970 115 hp evinrude? Where the best place to get parts are, what type of impeller, anything to watch out for etc. Thanks in advance,

Shortbus
git a manual then break the foot down . you may need some special tools that you may not have .
i pllled my 50 hp. 1974 & a 72 eletricshift apart need a pair of long nose clipring plires which i used a pari of long needle nose pliers . it got the job don . save all the berings and the number offn of them . seals to you can git them frome a bering outlet .i saved a bundle . a friend worked at a factory in matinance got the bering and seals for about a third . if not avaible go to napa auto parts . i am sure that there is a factory some where near that has a bering catolog .
Shortbus,

Why are you rebuilding it?? Locate a good used one for 1/2 the price of the parts you will need. That motor is over thiry years old, there are lots of blown or overheated motors out there with good lower units. Save yourself the headaches of trying to even get it apart.
i'm interested in locating a used lower unit and/or a prop shaft for my 69' Merc 500 (50hp) if anyone can help me out. email is jamie@athenshomesolutions.com
Dude and Jammie. E-mail this guy he is out of Maryland. Great prices from what it looks like. American Outboard Motors [decals@americanoutboard.com]. I have not purchased anything from them yet but I have a good vibe from them.Good luck.

Sb
