I am trying to replace the internal parts of<br />a lower end unit of a Merc 850 (85HP) Mercury <br />Six outboard motor - Serial #1757867 (don't know yr.) The old lower end has a crack in it. I have an almost identical lower end unit that I want to use and just replace used parts but can't get the good lower end unit apart. Everything appears to be stuck. Need a good manual - any suggestions? Also how do I get this thing apart. Have been told to heat up the ring that screws in - but tried and it still doesn't come apart. Will soaking it in some kind of oil help? Don't know much about this - but am willing to try! <br />Any help is appreciated.
