Is there a difference between automotive gear oil and marine gear oil?
I was advised to not use automotive, since the marine grade is designed for water/moisture resistance and atmosphere.
This seems extremely far fetched and the mark up on anything for marine use makes me cringe.
I have a 88 OMC Cobra. What is best for fresh water use?

Re: Lower unit lubrication.

I don't buy the hype. I got some synthetic blend 75W-90 for $3/quart.

It might not have Magical Mercruiser Fairy Dust in it, but it lubes the gears.

That's what it's supposed to do.

I would be willing to bet that the oil is packaged in the same factory, from the same vat of oil...
