Alpha 1 circa 1986
Had the outdrive off the boat for about 1.5 yrs. Installed it but saw lube collecting in the housing at the prop. Drained unit, rigged a pressure test @ 10psi from the vent plug and spotted a leak around the prop bearing carrier where the carrier meets the housing at the deepest part of the cavity. Parts diagram shows a large o-ring behind the carrier near the leak. Is that o-ring the problem or is it not intended to seal the way I think it does? In other words, does the leak have to be that o-ring or can another bad seal somewhere else in the outdrive cause lube to leak out from around the prop bearing carrier?
Thanks,
-mike
