Years ago, I stumbled onto a spring-loaded-check-ball-valve for the bottom drain for an outboard motor. You removed the original bottom screw-plug, and screwed in yhe check valve affair. The "ball" was a little larger than a BB. To add lube, one would push the snout of the gear lube against the ball to open it, and squeeze the tube 'til it came out the top, and bingo, no mess....... Are those fittings still around?
