I have a 07 225 etec. I am a bass fisherman and fish a lot of tournaments this time of year. I recently changed my gear oil in the lower unit and did something really dumb. I unscrewed the bottom drain plug and then for some reason started to unscrew the Phillips head screw beside the water intake. The screw was really tight and after unscrewing it half a turn, I realized it was not the upper drain plug and tightened it back. (after boogering it up a little).

So, Now after pumping new gear oil in and tightening everything up correctly, I am noticing gear oil coming from the Phillips head screw? I wiped it clean only to come back later and notice more coming out.

I hope I haven't screwed anything up. I feel so stupid. I have changed the gear oil in this motor and several other outboard several times.

Let me mention I have a tournament this weekend? Unfortunately the local etec dealer has been too swamped to help me.

You could drain out all the oil, back the screw out only a bit and squirt some gasket glue on the thread and around the head then retighten.
Im sure someone will have a better idea but thats what i would do

Go get a new O-ring, part # 332584. Remove the screw and install the new O-ring. That screw holds the pinion bearing from moving. You didn't hurt anything.

Agreed, screw keeps pinion bearing seated where it needs to be.
