Having a hard time locating a water pump kit for my outdrive. I cannot find a SN on the drive anywhere.
My engine SN is: 2902609

From other photos, this looks to be an alpha lower unit but with a pre alpha drive shaft (with the preload pin)?

I ordered this water pump:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005R46UQ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

but I think it's the wrong one as it's sucking air from the base.

It looks to be pre- A1. There are no numbers at all on the drive?

Look inside the cavity in front of the trim tab screw hole for a casting number

the preload pin and the square plate might make it a "R" model. that is the correct water pump for that unit

ok. So if it's the correct pump. I have a question.
After the pump is assembled onto the lower unit. is it supposed to be air tight? For example. if I blow into the tube, is air supposed to come out of the sides of the pump?

It should for the most part but not necessarily, slight groves and impeller vane orientation could allow air to pass. It's classified as a positive displacement pump but it's rubber parts and not steel. You should be good if installed correctly
