Grin!!!! Oil does get discussed here but just like discussing religion and politics, nothing is ever accomplished because there is no resolution other than to use whatever twiddles your heart strings! See --- two responses already and no resolution!

Re: Lower unit gear oil

I use royal purple lower unit oil for all my outboards with great results. It can be used for marine as it states on the back. It's a little pricey at $18 a quart but i only change my lower unit oil once a yr so that adds up to $9 a yr as i get 2 fillups out of a quart which isn't to bad.I would have to say most of,if not all of amsoils products are great so i would go for it.I have looked for it aroung here and can't find it that is how i discovered the royal purple and will use that stuff in every lower unit i ever own.I am planning on getting a new 4stroke outboard and using the royal purple oil or amsoil in it also.
