On a 1995 Evinrude 115's Lower unit, there are two covers (hatches) with 4 bolts in each. They are starting to corrode. Should these be entirely replaced or is there another means to correcting this. Also just above the zinc annode fin, there is another corrodable piece of medal. it is a small rectangle. Does this need to be replaced? Often? yearly?

Thanks

Re: Lower Unit Gear Covers

The "four bolt" covers you speak of sound like the lower mount damper covers.Plates don't usually wear out too quick from corrosion.Particularly on a 1995 model. But if you're looking at them ,you would know best.If they appear severely corroded ,then they may need replacement. If not too bad ,you can remove and clean back surface and apply some triple guard grease and re-install.Grease the bolt threads as well.

The sacrificial anodes are recommended to be changed after 1/3 of them are gone.
