Lower Unit Flush Port

On my '75 650 lower unit, there is a vent port which is what i open up when replacing the LU gear oi. Above it and to the right is another similar type port labeled "flush". What is the intended use of this port?

To connect a threaded water hose fitting to flush the engine with fresh water.

What is the distinction between using this and using earmuffs? Is it just that you get more pressure?

The muffs should allow you to run the engine while flushing, the 'flush' port probably does not ... :cold:
