lower unit fill and vent screw gasket

Are rubber o-rings ok to use on the fill and vent screws instead of the vinyl or fiber ones??

No! Not unless you are using the old Evinrude plugs with a groove under the head for an O-ring.

Otherwise you can not adequately tighten the plug and run the risk of leaking. The O-ring will "squish" out unless the plug is designed for it.
