Lower Unit Drive shaft movement?

I put in a new impeller pump kit today and when I had the lower unit slit in two, the drive shaft that the impeller kit slides over has alot of play. Side to side, forward to back. I could see the bearing moving around as well under the spot where the impeller kit bolts to the lower unit.

So Is this normal? Or should I work a but load of over time to buy a new lower unit?

It is a 88 Alpha one.

Ayuh,... Agreed,... Once it's put back together, things tighten up....
