I have bought new drainplugs/gaskets and changed LU oil on my johnson 250 - it is a dark grey paper type gasket that came in the kit - but it seems not to be 100% sealing, very very little oil is running from the lower drain plug - is it so that this paper like gasket must absorb a bit oil during some days so it becomes 100% tight? Or must I change the gasket? I tried to tighten the screw but feel it is tight enough.

For info; the drain plugs that were in had white nylon/plastic washers.

It is important that they do not leak. If oil can leak out water will get in even more easily.

I would have fitted new seals of the same type as the old ones to the old screws.

A few use O rings but the screws are a slightly different design

thx Vic - I have replaced the paper gasket with a seal like I had on earlier - i just wonder if the paper
gasket was ok but it was just the oil that had to leak out of the screw head hole after changing oil.

Anyway, will see how it goes now.

Sometimes the old paper gasket or parts of it stick to the sealing area. I think the nylon/plastic gaskets work a little better. Hope it's leak free now.

Nylon / plastic gasket did the trick - no leaks anymore now.

Torque those drain plugs down to 84 inch pds.
