lower unit compatibility

I have an 86-88 evinrude 70hp. Im needing a lower unit. Could someone tell me what year n what all hp lower units will fit. Thanks

Count the splines on the driveshaft. Should be 4 large splines?

The three cylinder lower units from that era should all bolt right up. 60,65,70,75 will all work. Just be aware that the gear ratio may be different, but that can be countered with a prop change. The driveshaft will have 4 large splines on it. Just make sure the driveshaft doesn't have 13 splines.The gearcase CHANGED in 1989. Trying to remember what year they changed the shifting orientation. Sometime in '82 they had the 4 large splines BUT the gearcase shifted backwards.

Short answer. 60-75hp, '82/3-'88

It is 4 large splines on tge driveshaft and 13 on the prop shaft

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! It can only be Johnson or Evinrude 60-75hp, '82/3-'88 Just make sure it has 4 large splines on the driveshaft and 13 on prop shaft. I saw some decent ones on Ebay for $350 shipped. Not too bad...........
